If you are building your own house or completing a renovating project you should work with a construction timeline detailing how long the project should take and list of works.
Here's what the construction timeline might look like:
Pre-construction period - get permits,
finalize plans and get your financing sorted out.
Preparing the lot and laying the foundation - clear out debris and trees, level out the lot where
the house will go, and pour the foundation.
Framing the house and building the roof
– usually takes about two months, bad weather can delay
things, however, once the roof is up, the weather is generally less of a concern.
Siding, wiring, and plumbing – Workers will finish the outside of the house and get the plumbing, electrical, heating and ventilation started.
Interior finishing – It takes about two months to complete the interior of the house once the drywall and most of the carpentry is completed.
Finishing of work
– Contractors will install the floors, do the painting, finish the
plumbing and electrical work.
Final Checks – you and the contractor do a final check of the house to create a list of things
that still need finishing, like a paint touch-up. Make sure you go into this with a critical eye and
question anything that seems wrong. This is your chance to get your contractor to fix mistakes before you move in.
