A decline in apprenticeships in the construction industry

Last year there was a decreasing amount of young people applying for apprenticeships within the construction industry. Only 24,000 apprentices started in construction, planning and the built environment in 2011/12. A 14.6% decline since the previous year. These figures are rather worrying and can lead to long term problems within the construction industry. We need to work together to encourage young people to start working within our industry.
